Why is environmental protection important for the ECB?

With the implementation of its environmental policy, the ECB is committed to reduce its carbon footprint as much as possible and systematically improve its environmental performance. Reduction and improvement are driven by the ECB’s Environmental Management System, which has been certified with ISO14001 and registered with the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). The ECB aligned its long-term emission reduction objective with the Paris Agreement 1.5-degree target.

How is the ECB protecting the environment?

In line with the six focus areas presented below, environmental protection enters a new cycle guided by our new Environmental Management Programme 2025-2027. By building on previous experience, the programme intends to reduce the environmental impact of our organisation across our activities.
